PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a surveyor to use a surveying instrument to check a point with eyes alone through laser beam irradiation. SOLUTION: A transit or a level is structured such that a laser beam emitted from a laser pointer 6 attached to the tube of a telescope causes the point of a target to move on the horizontal line of a cross within a lens, to be finely adjusted, and to be focused. By incorporating rotary shaft pins into the right and left side surface of the midportion of a staff or a rod between the upper and lower ends thereof and incorporating an overlap into the lower end, the staff or the rod can be made to stand perpendicularly with the rotary shaft pins as points of support. A tripod into which the staff or the rod is inserted is structured such that the ring of an outer cylindrical plate incorporated into a dish on the head of the tripod rotates freely with respect to a body of the head of the tripod.
