PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce influence of the disturbance light, in an optical sensor having a light receiving part used in a paper sheet carrying device. SOLUTION: This paper sheet carrying device regulates an upper specified value (2.4 V) higher than an upper limit value of a specified value range (1.0-1.8 V), and is initially set so that output of a light receiving part of detecting the light from a light emitting part in a state of detecting paper sheets, becomes higher than the upper specified value. When a measured value of measuring the output of the light receiving part at a specific time interval falls within the specified value range, correction processing is not performed, and when being higher than the upper limit value of the specified value range and lower than the upper specified value, the correction processing is performed, and when being lower than a lower limit value of the specified value range, the correction processing is performed.
