PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink ejection failure inspection method and device preventing erroneous detection caused by shading. SOLUTION: The ink ejection failure inspection method includes a recording step of ejecting ink from a nozzle group provided at a recording head and recording an inspection pattern including a recording area for recording ink solidly on a recording medium; a reading step of optically reading the inspection pattern recorded on the recording medium to obtain image information of the inspection pattern; a density computing step of computing the density of a noted pixel in the image information corresponding to a nozzle to be inspected out of the nozzle group based on the image information of the inspection pattern and computing the density of at least one pixel including a pixel adjacent to the noted pixel; a determination value computing step of computing a determination value based on the density of the noted pixel and the density of the at least one pixel including the pixel adjacent to the noted pixel; and a determining step of comparing the determination value with a predetermined threshold to determine the ink ejection failure of the nozzle to be inspected.
