<p>The invention relates to a hub for a propeller having variable pitch blades for a turbine engine, in particular for a propfan turbine engine. The propeller hub comprises a polygonal ring (134) having substantially radial cylindrical housings (136) distributed about a central axis of the ring (134) for receiving said blades, a rotor element (143) for the turbine of the turbine engine, and a supporting flange attached to the ring so as to connect the latter to said rotor element (243). The hub further comprises a plurality of backup retaining members (144) linked to the rotor element (143), and each of which has at least one bearing surface (145) opposite an outer surface (146) of the ring (134) with a radial spacing.</p>
