PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly accurate lens array element that eliminates a complicated post-process such as applying a light-shield member and prevents light-shield member from adhering to a lens face; and to provide an image reader that has the element, and a method for manufacturing the lens array element. SOLUTION: The light shield portion 3 of the lens array element 1 has a right-angle prism structure the vertex angle of which is 90°. A lens array face and the light-shield portion 3 are simultaneously formed on the emission face 2 side of the lens array element 1, thereby manufacturing the lens array element.
