PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hardening apparatus in which the suitable hardening treatment with water-coolant can be applied while preventing the atmospheric pollution and the wearing of members in a heating chamber. SOLUTION: The heating chamber 2 for applying a heat-treatment to a treating material and a hardening chamber 4 arranged with a water-tank part 41 for applying the hardening treatment by dipping the treating material applied with the heat-treatment, are provided, and a coolant shut-off chamber 3 is arranged between the heating chamber 2 and the hardening chamber 4. Further, this coolant shut-off chamber 3 can be shut off with respect to the heating chamber 2 and the hardening chamber 4, respectively with boundary doors 53 and 54, and a heater 31 for heating the coolant shut-off chamber 3, a pump-unit 65 for exhausting the gas in the coolant shut-off chamber 3, are arranged.
