PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controller for game machines, which enables the expression of virtual symbol reels in the variable display so as to make them look as if the actual symbol reels rotate. SOLUTION: At the timing of ending the variable display, a symbol stop command 33 is transmitted to a control board for display from the main control board initially for the symbols to be stopped and displayed in the display area at an upper stage. When the stop command 33 is received by the control board for display, three symbols at the upper stage are defined. Then, another symbol stop command 33 is transmitted for the symbols to be stopped and displayed in the display area at a lower stage and, likewise, the three symbols at the lower stage are defined. Furthermore, one more symbol stop command 33 is transmitted for the symbols to be stopped and displayed in the display area at a middle stage and the corresponding three symbols are defined at the middle stage. In this manner, the symbols at the respective stages are stopped and displayed one at a time in the order of the upper, lower and middle stages to match the direction of scrolling the symbols.
