A process for the production of a foam by curing a beaten or blown foam comprising an aqueous composition, the aqueous: composition comprising A) from 40 to 95 parts by weight of an alkali metal silicate solution having a water content of from 40 to 90% by weight, B) from 0 to 60 parts by weight of a pulverulent alkali metal silicate having a water content of from 0 to 30% by weight, C) from 0 to 15 parts by weight of a surfactant, D) from 5 to 40 parts by weight of an aqueous polymer dispersion having a solids content of from 10 to 60% by weight, and the foams obtainable by the process and the use thereof as an insulation panel.
