PURPOSE:To obtain muconic acid from benzoic acid in high yield, by cultivating Arthrobacter sp. T8626 or a mutant strain thereof having the ability to produce muconic acid using benzoic acid as a carbon source. CONSTITUTION:Arthrobacter sp. T8626 or a mutant strain thereof having the ability to produce muconic acid is cultivated in a culture medium using benzoic acid as a carbon source to give the muconic acid from the culture. Various hydrocarbons, organic acids, etc., may be further added thereto in addition to the benzoic acid as the carbon source. An organic ammonium salt, inorganic ammonium salt, urea, etc., may be used as a nitrogen source. The cultivation is carried out normally for about 12hr - 10 days under aerobic conditions. The pH of the culture medium is selected from 4-10, and the temperature is selected from about 20-40 deg.C. In the production of the muconic acid, any one of multiplied microbial cells and resting microbial cells may be used. The collection and purification of muconic acid from the culture can be carried out by the ordinary method. |
