PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a component mounting machine and a method of inspecting a suction unit, wherein a slide part of the suction unit can be inspected at low cost without requiring expensive dedicated facilities. SOLUTION: A voltage is applied to a shaft drive part 32 in a state in which a suction part 24d of the suction nozzle 24 is brought into contact with an inspection surface 40a of an inspection table 40 to acquire a relation between the supply voltage V to the shaft drive part 32 and downward displacementΔof a nozzle shaft 21 from a normal position while the nozzle shaft 21 is lowered toward a mounting head 5 (outer shaft 20), and it is determined whether a state of a slide of the nozzle shaft 21 on the nozzle shaft 21 is normal or not based upon the acquired relation between the supply voltage V to the shaft drive part 32 and the downward displacementΔof the nozzle shaft 21 from the normal position.
