PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scanner capable of speedily specifying a position of an end of a document in a scan image. SOLUTION: When a document is completely scanned to a lower part of a third apex (point C), a scanner calculates in a scan image a straight line AB passing through points A and B (first and second apexes), a straight line BE passing through points B and E, a straight line AC passing through points A and C and a straight line CD passing through the points C and D and determines on the basis of inclinations of these straight lines whether or not the first to the third apexes are right angles. If all the apexes are right angles, the document is determined rectangular and on the basis of the straight line AB, a length between A and B and coordinates of the point C, coordinates (Fx, Fy) of a fourth apex F (point F) are calculated.
