PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat transfer system, which is capable of reducing an internal corrosion by an aqueous cooling liquid, which remains highly reliable for a long period of time, and which exhibits a high cooling performance, to provide a method of starting the heat transfer system, and to provide a method of maintaining the heat transfer system. SOLUTION: The heat transfer system includes a cooling flow passage 3 containing the aqueous cooling liquid L and sealed, a circulation flow passage 30 containing the aqueous cooling liquid and capable of retaining airtightness, a circulation pump 100, a container having at least one gas-filled region 82 partitioned by contact segregation from the aqueous cooling liquid and filled with inert gas, an inlet 83, and an outlet 84, a first opening and closing part, and a second opening and closing part. The first opening and closing part is switchable between an open state allowing the inert gas to be introduced into the gas-filled region 82 and a closed state capable of retaining the airtightness of the container. The second opening and closing part is switchable between an open state capable of discharging the gas from the gas-filled region 82 to the outside and a closed state capable of retaining the airtightness of the container.
