PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas meter and method for detecting water entry in a pipe, which detects accumulation of water in a pipe while keeping costs low. SOLUTION: The gas meter 40 detects the amount of gas usage and displays the integral of the detected amount of the gas usage, and includes a pressure sensor 41 for detecting a pressure of a gas flowing inside a flow channel, and a determination part 42 for determining water entry in upstream side pipes 31 based on the gas pressure detected by the pressure sensor 41. The determination part 42 shifts to the water entry detection mode from the normal mode when the gas pressure detected by the pressure sensor 41 decreases below a first predetermined pressure, or a decreasing characteristic that a pressure drop exceeds a second predetermined pressure is shown, in the normal mode.
