PURPOSE: A navigation apparatus and an accident informing method using the same are provided to enable an accident informing message to be automatically sent without the direct contact by passengers. CONSTITUTION: A navigation apparatus comprises a camera unit(11), a GPS(global positioning system) unit(12), a memory unit(13), an accident detecting unit(14), a control unit(15) and a communication unit(16). The camera unit takes pictures of the surrounding part of a vehicle. The GPS unit recognizes the location information of the vehicle. The memory unit stores a network of emergency contacts, to which accident information is informed in case of accident. The accident detecting unit detects the accident of the vehicle. If the accident is detected, the control unit controls so that an accident informing message, which includes at least one of the surrounding picture, the position and the state of an accident vehicle, is sent to the network of emergency contacts through a portable terminal.
