PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonwoven fabric for an air filter, being an air filter member capable of maintaining high collection efficiency of dust and mist over a long period and having a long service life, and utilizable not only for an air intake for an internal combustion engine but also for a long-life filter for various kinds of air conditioners. SOLUTION: The nonwoven fabric for the air filter is a single-layer sheet-shaped nonwoven fabric having 150-400 g/m<SP>2</SP>of basis weight, and 20-80 cc/cm<SP>2</SP>/s of quantity of airflow provided by JIS-L-1906 (A method), and is regulated so that one surface part thereof may be a low-density part and the other surface part may be a high-density part, and the nonwoven fabric may have a density gradient continuously changing the density in the thickness direction from the low-density part to the high-density part through an intermediate layer part present between both the surface layer parts.
