Value document i.e. bank note, handling device, has multiple light barriers arranged in region of transport paths, and control device outputting alarm signal when values are constant over preset time period

The device has multiple light barriers (10, 12) arranged in a region of transport paths (70, 72) to detect presence of a value document using light barrier signals. A control device (80) evaluates the light barrier signals for differentiating a value of light barrier signal from other values of the light barrier signals, where the former value indicates absence of the value document and the latter values indicate presence of the value document. The control device outputs an alarm signal when the latter values are constant over preset time period. An independent claim is also included for a method for monitoring transport of a value document along transport paths.
