The method involves arranging two tank check valves (38, 42) in tank vent pipes (30, 32, 34), respectively. A certain pressure in a partial space of a tank system is adjusted by the check valves and a regeneration valve (50) during operation of an internal combustion engine. The pressure in the partial space of the tank system is detected after start of operation of the engine. Leakage testing is implemented based on comparison of the detected pressure with the adjusted pressure and/or temporal changing of the detected pressure.
