PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-cost alkaline dry battery high in a ratio of positive electrode active material utilization, excellent in discharge characteristics, and high in reliability. SOLUTION: The alkaline dry battery includes a positive electrode containing positive electrode active material and graphite, a negative electrode containing a negative electrode active material, a separator arranged between the positive electrode and a negative electrode, and an electrolyte. The positive electrode contains 0.15-0.55 pts.wt. of a poorly water-soluble polyacrylic acid or a salt of it as a positive electrode additive based on 100 pts.wt. of the positive electrode active material.
