PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reader reducing downtime even when a part of point light source breaks down, and also to provide an image forming device, a reading control method, an image forming method, a program, and a recording medium. SOLUTION: The size of a manuscript is detected in flat bed reading, or the size of the manuscript is detected in ADF (Auto Document Feeder) reading. The optimal reading means is selected, based on the detected result for the size of the manuscript and according to comparison of a manuscript read position in each reading method with a fault position at a point light source.
