PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently replace a rope for hookingly supporting an elevator car. SOLUTION: In rope replacing work for an elevator, a plurality of notches 35 are formed in a thermoplastic covering material 32a for covering an end part of a newly arranged rope 10, and the thermoplastic covering material 32a is projectingly formed in an end part by removing an existing rope 20, and the mutual end parts of the newly arranged rope 10 and the existing rope 20 are connected, and a connecting part 40 mutually connected with the existing rope 20 and the newly arranged rope 10 is heated, and the existing rope 20 and the newly arranged rope 10 are respectively moved along a moving passage, and the newly arranged rope 10 is arranged in the moving passage. The connection of the existing rope 20 and the newly arranged rope 10 is released in a state where the existing rope 20 exists outside the moving passage, and both end parts of the newly arranged rope 10 are installed in a predetermined position.
