The device has an operating device provided for selection of a gear in a transmission test item (4) to be verified. A mechanical connection unit (6) is provided for mechanical coupling of the operating device with a switching mechanism (8) i.e. switching lever mechanism. A connection element (12) is conveyed from a resting position, in which mechanical coupling with a coupling element of the switching mechanism does not exist, into a fixing position, in which a form-fit mechanical coupling with the coupling element of the switching mechanism exists, using a feeding device.
