PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a navigation device and a guide route searching method for searching for a route for avoiding congestion without making a detour, if possible, when congestion occurs on the guide route. SOLUTION: When determined that a congestion section exists on the guide route on the front in the traveling direction of a vehicle based on congestion information, some crossing existing in the congestion section is set as a temporary passing spot, and a second guide route from a present position to a destination via the temporary passing spot is searched for, to thereby enable use of detailed-level map data for route search aiming at a peripheral road of a spot set as the temporary passing spot. Hereby, a possibility of searching for a detour route not so far from the congestion section becomes stronger, and a route for avoiding congestion without making a detour, if possible, can be searched for.
