PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such a problem that when a format storable in an image forming apparatus is changed, data in a personal area, whose storage is no longer permitted cannot be automatically deleted, however when the data is accessed from an external device such as a PC, a user may not delete the data even if accessed from the PC, such as the external device, since it is not known whether setting of the storable format is changed. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus identifies a user who has made access and determines whether the data of the format with which storage is forbidden are stored in user's personal directory. When the format whose storage is forbidden is stored, the image forming apparatus determines a device of an access source, and when the access is determined from outside, returns the data to prompt deletion of the ban format to the access source.
