PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce influence of the disturbance light, in an optical sensor having a light receiving part used in a paper sheet carrying device. SOLUTION: In this paper sheet carrying device, a light shielding part 34A is arranged by using an installation member 37 outside a carrying pipe 14 opposed to a reflection type optical sensor 31B arranged in the carrying pipe 14. The light shielding part 34A is, for example, a glass mirror capable of shielding the detection light detectable by the light receiving part 31a, and is a material of reflecting the detection light of a light emitting part 31b of the reflection type optical sensor 31B by a reflection surface 36, and comprises a reflection material 36 so as to cover one side surface by coloring a mirror surface-finished metallic plate (such as stainless steel, a polished metallic plate or a luster plating metallic plate) and resin, for example, besides the glass mirror so as to be capable of shielding the detection light or processing in a film shape or a thin plate shape having a sufficient thickness.
