PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To flexibly create database configurations for image retrieval while utilizing existing database configurations, and to easily retrieve similar images even in an apparatus such as a portable telephone with low processing power. SOLUTION: A feature extraction means 130 extracts feature data 115 from image data 123. A DB generation means 140 generates a new telephone book DB 110 by associating the extracted feature data 115 with each personal information stored in a conventional telephone book DB 120. A similarity comparison means 210 determines the similarity of feature data AA 230 and the feature data 115 of the telephone book DB 110, and extracts image data A123-1 corresponding to the similar feature data 115.
