PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a machine structure shape design method, design device, design program and a design program recording medium for determining the optimal shape by using the advantages of a CAD and morphing. SOLUTION: In a first process, a shape-changeable area and a shape-unchangeable area are set in an initial shape, and the outer shape of a machine structure is obtained by deleting the shape-changeable area from the initial shape (SP1 to SP3). In a second process, a mesh model is created from the outer shape (SP4), a morphing model is created from the mesh model (P5), and a model for finite element analysis is created (SP6). In a third process, whether or not the shape is optimized for maximizing rigidity and reducing weight is determined (SP7); when the shape is not optimized, whether or not the CAD shape should be changed is determined (SP8); if the CAD shape should be changed, the outline of the CAD shape is changed, and the shape is determined (SP9); and if not, the mesh of the morphing model is changed, and the deformation of the shape is finely adjusted (SP10).
