PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polyphenylene ether (PPE)-based resin composition solving a trouble caused during molding and a trouble of the resultant molded product, further with even excellent working environments during extrusion, and to provide the molded product using the resin composition. SOLUTION: The method for producing the PPE-based resin composition includes: a first step of melt kneading (A) a PPE resin alone or melt kneading (A) the PPE resin and (B) a styrenic resin in a ratio of≤50 pts.mass of (B) the styrenic resin based on 100 pts.mass of (A) the PPE, and thereby producing an intermediate composition; and a second step of carrying out the melt kneading using the intermediate composition, and the balance of (A) the PPE, the balance of (B) the styrenic resin, (C) a phosphorus-based flame retardant and (D) a dye- or a pigment-containing component.
