PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which can stably start a drive roller, while reducing the cost and saving the space, even when a belt member is adhered to the drive roller by a component deposited from the belt member and a transfer member and the drive load of the drive roller is increased due to the fact that the image forming apparatus is left as it is for a long time. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus in which a transfer roller 104 is arranged in a part facing a photoreceptor 1 across the belt member 2 includes the drive roller 18 driving the belt member 2 and a drive motor 102 transmitting a drive force to the drive roller 18. A CPU 106 sets a current value flowing in the drive motor to a first current value, when the start of a job is not just after a power is supplied and sets the current value flowing in the drive motor to a second current value higher than the first current value, when the start of the job is just after the power is supplied.
