<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that can carry out image stabilization control at low cost. <P>SOLUTION: The electrophotographic color image forming apparatus forms toner patterns 1101 and 1102 of a specified shape on an intermediate transfer belt 21, detects the toner patterns by an optical sensor SE1, and performs the image stabilization control such as toner adherence amount correction control and color misalignment correction control. The toner patterns 1101_la to 1101_ld and 1101_ra to 1101_rd are formed under the same image forming conditions, and a toner adherence amount and a toner adherence position are detected by using the same toner patterns.
