<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refrigerator improved in deodorizing and sterilizing performances. <P>SOLUTION: This refrigerator has: a storage compartment disposed in a refrigerator body 1; a discharge port for distributing cold air to the storage compartment; a visible light emission type diode disposed in front of a center in the depth direction of an upper section in the storage compartment and irradiating the depth; a translucent cover covering the diode and having a photocatalyst; and shelves 2a, 2b, 2c partitioning the inside of the storage compartment and having a photocatalyst.
