PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure sufficient sealing performance by improving sealing performance at an attachment part further in a boot for a universal joint including an attachment part to a shaft or an outside joint member at an end part of a bellows shape film part and including a band installation groove on an outer circumference surface of the attachment part. SOLUTION: In the boot for the universal joint, a rip 6 is provided on an inner circumference surface of the attachment part, a projection part is provided on a bottom surface of the band installation groove at a position corresponding to the rip 6, and the rip 6 has an unequal side shape cross section. The unequal side shape satisfies inequalities L<SB>1</SB><L<SB>2</SB>andθ<SB>1</SB><θ<SB>2</SB>, when length and inclined angle (inclined angle with respect to a plane of rotation) of a side of a boot inside inclined surface of the boot 6 are defined as L<SB>1</SB>andθ<SB>1</SB>, and length and inclined angle (inclined angle with respect to a plane of rotation) of a side of a boot outside inclined surface, and L<SB>2</SB>andθ<SB>2</SB>.
