Disclosed is a production method for a nonionic surfactant. The production method comprises: a step (I) whereby a specific ethylene oxide adduct is obtained by reacting an ethylene oxide and an alcohol having a water content of 0.1% or less by mass; a step (II) whereby an alkylene oxide adduct is obtained by reacting the specific ethylene oxide adduct and a propylene oxide, and the amount of residual propylene oxide in the alkylene oxide adduct is not greater than 1000mg/kg; and a step (III) whereby a specific nonionic surfactant is obtained by reacting the specific alkylene oxide adduct and an ethylene oxide, and the amount of residual ethylene oxide and the amount of residual propylene oxide in the specific nonionic surfactant are each not greater than 5mg/kg.
