PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus optimum for controlling calibration processing. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus executes calibration, for maintaining quality for image formation. At every color/monochrome printing, a color/monochrome information determining means determines color/monochrome information, which shows the operating time of a developing unit and the number of sheets of paper printed. The color/monochrome information storage means stores the history of color/monochrome information determined by the color/monochrome information determining means. Further, based on the history of the color/monochrome information stored in the color/monochrome information storage means, a calibration control means controls conditions for calibration.
