PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical writing apparatus securing an optical path of synchronous light in the optical writing apparatus while reducing the number of components of the optical writing apparatus. SOLUTION: The optical writing apparatus 20 includes semiconductor lasers 30a, 30b; a polygon mirror 22 deflecting optical beams emitted from the semiconductor lasers 30a, 30b: a scanning optical system 23 having a plurality of long-sized optical elements including a dichroic mirror 38 and converging the deflected optical beams on a photoconductor drum 9 to form an electrostatic latent image; and a photodiode 24 receiving optical beams for synchronous detection. The dichroic mirror 38 reflects the optical beams for synchronous detection toward the other end inside the dichroic mirror 38 by a reflecting surface formed at one longitudinal end and transmits the optical beams in a main scanning direction inside the dichroic mirror 38, and the photodiode 24 receives the optical beams for synchronous detection transmitted inside the dichroic mirror 38.
