PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup device which controls a plurality of lens barrels simultaneously while suppressing a current amount of a power source circuit, upon driving lenses of the plurality of lens barrels, and to provide a control method of the image pickup device. SOLUTION: The image pickup device has the plurality of lens barrels, and each lens barrel includes a movable lens such as a zoom lens. The movable lens of each lens barrel can be driven independently, and a controlling section starts driving the movable lens of a second lens barrel after starting driving the movable lens of a first lens barrel. After the lapse of a period of an inrush current that flows when the movable lens of the first lens barrel that operates first is driven, driving of the movable lens of the second lens barrel that operates next is started. The controlling section stops driving the movable lens of the second lens barrel after stopping driving the movable lens of the first lens barrel. By this means, it is possible to prevent the inrush current upon start of lens driving relating to the first lens barrel from being superimposed on the inrush current upon start of lens driving relating to the second lens barrel.
