PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a precursor for carbon fiber production, having improved flame-retardant rate and giving a carbon fiber having high quality and high productivity in carbon fiber production process. SOLUTION: The method for producing the precursor for carbon fiber production comprises: compounding 0.1-5.0 wt.% of cellulose nanofibers having an average diameter of 1-500 nm to an acrylonitrile-based polymer containing <15 mol% and≥0.01 mol% of a polymerizable monomer copolymerizable with acrylonitrile, and solution spinning the product.
