PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glass fiber, capable of improving its CO<SB>2</SB>laser processability when used for the production of printed wiring boards, and to provide a glass composition for the glass fiber, used for the production of the glass fiber. SOLUTION: The glass composition for the glass fiber contains, on the basis of the total number of mole of constituents, 55-60 mol% of SiO<SB>2</SB>, 4-6 mol% of Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, 5-9 mol% of B<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, 12-20 mol% of CaO, 3-8 mol% of BaO, 3-6 mol% of ZnO, 1-3 mol% of Na<SB>2</SB>O, 1-3 mol% of Li<SB>2</SB>O and 0-1 mol% of K<SB>2</SB>O, wherein the total mol% of Na<SB>2</SB>O, Li<SB>2</SB>O and K<SB>2</SB>O is 2-5 mol% and the total mol% of Na<SB>2</SB>O and Li<SB>2</SB>O is at least 2 mol%.
