At the pouring zone (4), the block has a rounded edge surface (6) which extends in the direction of casting. The edge-rounding curves smoothly between the inner and outer walls (17, 18) of the block. The surface (6) is cylindrical, oval or elliptical. Its cross section is circular-, especially semicircular-cylindrical. The casting surface lies opposite a flat lower wall (7). This (7) seats on an edge of the casting opening in the ladle. It is wider than the edge thickness (3) of the opening. A support section (9) projects from the lower wall (7) and reaches down behind the wall of the ladle. It seats on an upper edge of the permanent refractory lining of the ladle. The support section is either thicker or thinner than the lining. In a development of the design, opposite the support section, a shorter protection section is located. This leaves a groove between these two sections. The groove fits over the free edge-region of the casting opening in the ladle. The pouring zone (4) is designed as a weir with shoulders (5). The side wall of each shoulder is not radial, but is angled, convex or concave, such that the pouring zone narrows in the direction of casting.
|
