PURPOSE: A power transmission device for a water pump is provided to cool an engine even if power is not applied by driving an impeller and to enable a water pump to selectively receive power from the engine. CONSTITUTION: A power transmission device for a water pump comprises a pulley(60), a field coil(68), a disc(72), a rotary shaft(56), an elastic member(74), a rivet(76), and a clutch member(80). The pulley is rotated by receiving power from an engine. The field coil is installed inside the pulley and generates a suction magnetic flux. The disc is moved by the suction magnetic flux of the field coil. The rotary shaft is rotated by selectively receiving power from the pulley. An impeller(58) for flowing cooling water is formed in one end of the rotary shaft. The elastic member provides elastic force. The rivet is coupled to the disc. The clutch member is coupled to the rotary shaft through a hub(86).
