PURPOSE:To enhance high rate discharge performance by narrowing the width of an outermost electrode plate of a plate group than that of an inside electrode plate having the same polarity. CONSTITUTION:When a plate group 6 is forced to insert into a metal case 1 formed taperingly, electrical contact of the plate group 6 with the metal case 1 is made good. Since the width of an outermost negative plate 4b is narrowed than that of an inside negative plate 4a, the plate group 6 is inserted into the metal case 1 without any damage of the outermost negative plate 4a. In addition, the dimension of the inside plate can be increased to almost the same as the inner dimension of the metal case. This enhances the electric capacity of a battery in spite of using the case having the same dimension and electrical contact of the inside plate with the inner surface of the case is also increased. Utilization of active material is increased and a square battery having good discharge performance is obtained. |
