Disclosed is a device for determining the result of an assay, comprising:
a computation circuit, responsive to an analyte signal representing the amount of an analyte or the rate of accumulation of an analyte, wherein said circuit is capable of comparing the analyte signal to a first threshold and comparing the analyte signal to a second threshold, the second threshold being less than the first threshold, characterised in that:
an output signal is generated if the analyte signal exceeds the first threshold and wherein an output signal is generated if the analyte signal is less than the second threshold, the output signal being indicative of a first result if the analyte signal exceeds the first threshold, and the output signal being indicative of a second result if the analyte signal is less than the second threshold;
and wherein the assay is terminated if the analyte signal exceeds the first threshold; and the assay is terminated if the signal is less than the second threshold. |
