The power supply box 1 for the "cold light" lamp 2 includes a housing 3 at its upper part into which the sleeve 4 fits. This same sleeve includes, at its top, a bushing 5 provided with a screw 6 allowing the cylindrical handle 7 of the magnifying glass 8 to be immobilised in a given position. During examination, the patient holds his or her head with his or her elbows resting on a table. Focusing on the iris of the patient is obtained simply by moving the box over the table. The illumination lamp is held in the hand and the practitioner chooses the best angle of incidence for illumination. This method avoids the relative "glass/patient" displacement and thereby enhances the comfort of the examination. <IMAGE>
