PURPOSE:To attain miniaturization by using the recording face of a recording medium as one end face, constituting a laser resonator of another end face of a laser diode (LD) opposite to the one end face subject to non-reflection processing, and reading information from a change in the oscillating characteristic of the LD due to a return light. CONSTITUTION:Non-reflection processing is applied to an end face 2 of a laser diode LD 21 to make an end face 1 as a reflecting face, the reflecting face of the recording face of the recording medium of an optical disk 6 is formed to be an end face 3 and the faces 3, 1 form a laser resonator. Information is recorded on the face 3 of the optical disk by a change in a reflectance or a polarized face with respect to the irradiating light similarly as a conventional recording and the change causes a change in the oscillating characteristic of the LD 21. The light radiating from the end face 1 of the LD 21 is detected by a photodetector PD 23 in response to the change and the signal is processed to read a recording data. Thus, the optical branch system is omitted to attain miniaturization and the durability and reliability are improved. |
