PURPOSE:To allow the transmission of images having high resolution by providing the above body with a circular section of a radius r0 and specifying the refractive index distribution in at least a 0.25 to 0.70r0 range from the central axis toward the outer peripheral surface. CONSTITUTION:The distributed refractive index type plastic light transmission body having the circular section of the radius r0 has the refractive index distribution in which the range of at least 0.25 to 0.70r0 from the central axis toward the outer peripheral surface of the light transmission body is nearly approximate to the refractive index distribution curve regulated by equation I. This light transmission body is formed by preparing N-pieces where N>=3, of uncured materials, the viscosity in the uncured state of which is 10<3> to 10<8> and the refractive index n when cured is n1>n2>n3...nN, forming bar-shaped or fiber-shaped moldings laminated with plural layers of these materials in such a manner that the refractive indices of the respective layers of the plural layers lower successively concentrically from the center, and subjecting the molding to a curing treatment while or after subjecting the layers to a diffusion treatment in such a manner that the refractive index distributions between the respective layers attain continuous refractive index distributions. The transmission of the images having the high resolution is possible in this way. |
