Retaining nut

A retaining nut (21) comprises a nut body (22) and a plurality of axially extending integrally formed deflectable locking fingers (23). The locking fingers (23) have a frusto-conical surface (29) opposite a threaded surface (30). The frusto-conical surface (29) of the locking fingers (23) are adapted to co-operate with a conical washer (25). Tightening the threaded nut (21) on a threaded shaft (6) against the washer (25) causes the locking fingers (23) to deflect radially towards the shaft (6). This provides a secure radial clamping of the nut (21) on the shaft (6).
