RUBBER-REINFORCING CORDS AND RADIAL-PLY TIRES USING THE SAME

Rubber-reinforcing cords (10) are disclosed which are essentially comprised of a core (11) formed of selected non-metallic fibers, and selected steel wires (12) laminated thereover, the fibers having specified specific gravities, tensile moduli, elongations at break, and the wires having specified volume fractions based on the total cord volume. The resulting cord excels in shear strength, thus providing rubber products of improved mechanical strength and weight saving characteristics. Also disclosed are radial tires having a belt or a carcass reinforced with the cord.
