PURPOSE: A karaoke system and an operating method capable of providing ideal lighting effects are provided to control a lighting apparatus by using each kind of karaoke information, real accompaniment, a user voice signal and a frequency band of the voice signal. CONSTITUTION: A karaoke system(100) comprises a microphone input unit(122), a lighting apparatus, a microprocessor(110), a lighting apparatus controller(140), and a filtering and level detection unit(130). The microphone input unit receives an external audio signal. The lighting apparatus is electrically connected to the karaoke system, and comprises an internal light(151) arranged in the karaoke system and/or an external light(153) arranged at the external side of the karaoke system. The microprocessor turns on/off the lighting apparatus connected to the karaoke system and controls the output of an audio or video signal depending on karaoke information.
