The invention provides a capsule for a container of food, beverages and the like, in particular wine bottles. A capsule of this type, which can be fitted around a substantially cylindrical top section of the container is made of paper and has a topmost, substantially circular planar section and an adjoining sleeve-shaped section. The sleeve-shaped section consists of a continuous material section which is arranged in overlapping strips separated each time by alternately inward and outward fold lines.
