PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide toner free from production of environmental pollutant while achieving energy saving, and giving high fixing strength of a formed image; and to provide an image forming method. SOLUTION: The toner for forming a toner image is used in an image forming method for forming an image on a recording material through a fixing step of developing an electrostatic latent image to form the toner image and fixing the toner image to a recording material, and the toner is composed of toner particles containing a water-reactive solidifying substance that reacts with water to solidified. The fixing step in the image forming method includes a process of supplying water to the toner particles constituting the toner image. The water-reactive solidifying substance included in the toner particles is preferably a substance that reacts with water to solidify through a crosslinking reaction, curing reaction or polymerizing reaction.
