<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus for satisfying both of protection and safety of an HDD. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes: a first relay 103 connected in parallel with a main power source switch 102; a switch 104 for main power source switch state detection for detecting the state of ON/OFF of the main power source switch 102, and for outputting a switch state detection signal 105; a timer circuit 107 for outputting a shutdown signal when the detection of the OFF state of the main power source switch 102 continues in a prescribed time; and a second relay 109 whose ON/OFF is controlled so that an AC power is supplied to the second DC power source 108. The first relay 104 is turned on when the shutdown signal is output from the timer circuit 107, and turned off when the shutdown signal is not output.
